Should you end a relationship because of an affair?

No, not always - all situations are unique and one persons reason for cheating will always be different from another. But an affair doesn't have to mean the end of a relationship and in some cases can act as the trigger to turn things around.
Thinking beyond the sex, learning to forgive the betrayal and trying to understand the reasons behind a person cheating can lead to a level of communication and understanding you might never had had before - yes it's a hard way to get there but if you think it's something worth saving, don't let people tell you it's black and white - grey is a colour too.

5. Lack of communication

Infidelity is often a symptom of something much bigger, a problem within the relationship that has manifested itself in one person feeling that they are unable to communicate. It's amazing to think that a couple who have lived under the same roof for 10 years feel unable to voice a concern about their relationship. But sometimes, burying your head in the proverbial sand (or something more fun) is easier than a face-to-face conversation about your emotions.
Having an affair can be either a way of escaping the problems or a way of finding comfort and reassurance from someone who will prioritise you - make them feel either valid and needed again or give them space to breath, away from the tension and animosity.

4. Complacency within a relationship

I'm in no way blaming the 'victim' for the infidelity but sometimes, when in a relationship, it's easy to get comfortable and stop making an effort. Sex, appearance, communication - all the things that we invest so much time in at the beginning of a relationship but drop by the wayside the more 'comfortable' we become.
Relationships need effort, whether you've been together for three months or three decades and domesticity isn't always the golden chalice of happiness. Similarly, raising children, paying mortgages, arguing about sunday lunches at the in-laws, isn't alway the sexiest of things to have on your mind when trying to keep things alight in the bedroom.
Yes, keeping the romantic side of a relationship in this situation alive is the better thing to do but it isn't always the easiest - and is, arguably, one of the main reasons men cheat.

3. Cheating is fun.

It hurts people, it's selfish and potentially devastating for everyone involved - however, it doesn't matter how you wrap it up, what makes an affair so tempting is the excitement and thrill that comes with it.
There will never be the same level of 'naughtiness' from an honest relationship for the simple reason that it's not a secret. And, for a lot of men, an affair is less about the person or even the sex, it's about the thrill - of the chase, of the secrecy and yes, even the deceit. This being the case, it has absolutely nothing to do you and everything to do with a compulsion that needs to be satisfied.

2. Talking of egos

Just because a man gets married, it doesn't mean that he loses all want to be desired. So even if the stationary cupboard isn't on the cards, the thrill of a chase doesn't, necessarily, disappear the minute he walks down the aisle. And sometimes, it can be the familiarity and monotony of a relationship that drives a man to cheat, in itself stirring the fear of 'is this all there is' and the temptation of one last adventure.

The five reasons men cheat - and why it doesn't need to mean the end of a relationship

People tend to have very firm rules about monogamy in a relationship and, generally, are fairly non-negotiable in their reactions to infidelity.
It's crap when someone cheats on you. You're likely to be hurt, angry, and of course, take the betrayal personally. But there is more than one reason for infidelity and cheating doesn't always need to mean that a relationship is over.
Who's to even say that monogamy is natural? Couldn't the idea of a person vowing to have sex with one person for a lifetime, be seen as less natural than a person having a number of different sexual partners throughout their life, as their tastes, interests and maturity changes?
A persons reason to cheat is individual and not always as cut and dry as many people would think.

1. Because it's there.

Of course women cheat too, but when considering men and infidelity, the truth is that often when men are offered sex, they take it - according to research, the reason being that men are less likely to be propositioned and so more likely to take advantage of an opportunity when it arises. Nothing boosts a man's ego like a person who isn't their wife suggesting a quickie in the stationary cupboard, and despite being possibly, the most hopeless of reasons to cheat, is often the root of the infidelity.

General Election 2015: Scottish Sun to back SNP while UK edition throws support behind Tories

The Scottish Sun has announced its support for the SNP in next week's General Election saying the party will "fight harder for Scotland's interests at Westminster".
In a front page along a Star Wars theme the headline reads "Stur Wars" and Nicola Sturgeon is portrayed as Princess Leia.
In a front page editorial, the newspaper urges reads to back the SNP, saying: "Scotland voted No but there can be no doubt the referendum changed the nation.
"And today The Scottish Sun urges our readers to continue that change and vote for Nicola Sturgeon's SNP on 7 May.
"We believe they will fight harder for Scotland's interests at Westminster, offering a new hope for our country.
"Nicola has been the star of the election campaign north and south of the border."
The Scottish Sun did not back either side in the referendum debate last year but it supported the SNP at the 2011 Scottish parliament election.
It comes as the UK edition of The Sun announced it will support the Conservatives at the General Election.
Among one of the reasons it lists is to "stop SNP running the country".
Sun spokesman said: "The Sun is written first and foremost for its readers, and the UK edition and Scottish edition have two very distinct audiences.
"If Scotland and England were playing each other at football, no one would expect The Scottish Sun to support the English national team."

Mayweather focused on game plan, not fight hype

Floyd Mayweather stood nose to nose with Manny Pacquiao for the first time at a news conference, then said he can't promise their mega showdown will live up to all the pre-fight hype.
"I can't say," Mayweather said when asked if the richest fight in boxing history will live up to its blockbuster billing.
"Even if we fought at an extremely high pace, it is not for me to judge. My job is to go out and do my best. Just be Floyd Mayweather."
Mayweather squares off against Filipino boxing icon Pacquiao in the richest fight in boxing history Saturday at the MGM Grand Hotel that is expected to generate some $400 million in revenue.
Mayweather spoke to a small group of reporters following Wednesday's news conference which finished with the two future Hall of Famers getting up close and personal for the cameras in a stare down at the front of the brightly-lit stage in the MGM's Ka Theatre.
Mayweather said weeks of working out, sparring hundreds of rounds and watching film at his Las Vegas gym have prepared him to fight Pacquiao. But he plans to spend the next few days taking his mind off the fight.
"I am going to be watching movies and watching playoff basketball," Mayweather said. "The only thing I can do now is take it one day at a time.
"I am going to go home and rest. The next time I hear anything about boxing will be at the weigh in."
World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association welterweight champion Mayweather and World Boxing Organization champ Pacquiao agreed to the fight in February after years of on and off again speculation over whether the two would ever meet.
Mayweather has been unusually quiet in the build up to the Pacquiao fight. He says he doesn't need to resort to trash talk to sell this one.
"From beginning of my career I have always had a game plan. I make calculated moves inside the ring and outside the ring.
"Me speaking out loud and having personality, I did that in the past. I am a lot older and wiser and this fight sells itself. I don't have to do it.
"Before I would come out and speak in a flamboyant "Money" persona. It was all about entertainment."
- Not good versus evil -
Mayweather says he doesn't want to be portrayed as the bad guy for this fight.
"This fight is not good versus evil. It is one fighter who is at the top and another. I believe in my skills and believe I will be victorious.
"When I went into training camp I worked hard to win this fight and I am sure he did the same.
"I don't take nothing away Pacquiao. He is going to be an intriguing matchup on Saturday.
"He didn't get to where he got by not beating tough competition."
Both fighters are expected to make well over $100 million from the welterweight unification bout with 60 percent of the purse going to Mayweather and Pacquiao collecting the other 40 percent.
Mayweather says the money isn't important because he has everything he wants.
"When you get to this point ... once you make so much money, there is nothing you can buy anymore," he said.
Mayweather dismissed suggestions Wednesday that he would come into the ring Saturday weighing an unofficial 160 pounds (72.57 kg), even after the expected weight gain that will follow the weigh-in for the welterweight limit of 147 pounds (67 kg).
"I have never seen 155 (70.31 kg)," he said. "I just look big because I am working hard. I am the bigger, stronger guy."

Diesel cars could be banished as Britain ordered to cut air pollution

Diesel cars could be phased out in Britain after the Supreme Court ruled that the Government must take urgent steps to tackle air pollution in cities.
The UK is facing millions of pounds of fines from the European Commission for failing to cut levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2).
Yesterday judges in Britain’s highest court ordered the Department for the Environment to submit new air quality plans by the end of the year setting out radical ways of tackling pollution.
Environmental and motoring groups said that diesel cars and trucks were likely to be targeted because they emit the largest amount of nitrogen dioxide. Freight companies predicted that diesel drivers would be offered incentives to scrap their vehicles or face stiff new taxes.
However Edmund King of the AA warned that the 11 million motorists who were ‘misled’ into buying diesel cars during Gordon Brown’s ‘dash for diesel’ would feel betrayed.
“There have been confusing messages and the goal now seems to have changed from encouragement to the demonising of diesel,” said Mr King.
“This won’t just affect big polluting trucks, but taxi drivers and families with people-carriers as well. This could drive down the value of cars dramatically.
"We all want better air quality but knee-jerk reactions without considering the science will not help air quality, industry or drivers.”
In 2001, Mr Brown, the then chancellor, overhauled vehicle excise duty so that cars that emitted a higher level of carbon dioxide faced a higher level of vehicle excise duty.
The move prompted a profound shift towards diesel cars, which produce lower levels of carbon dioxide because they are about 20 per cent more efficient than petrol engines.
Over the past decade, the number of diesel cars on Britain’s roads has risen from 1.6 million to more than 11 million and accounts for a third of vehicles.
However Labour’s plan failed to take into account that diesel vehicles emit 10 times the fine particles and up to twice the nitrogen dioxide, which has been linked to 7,000 deaths each year.
On Wednesday Lord Carnwath sitting in London’s Supreme Court found that the UK had breached article 13 of the EU Air Quality Directive which demanded that nitrogen dioxide levels were cut to 40 micrograms of per cubic metre by 2010.
On present projections will not even fully hit the target by 2030, with London, the West Midlands and West Yorkshire predicted to be still over the healthy limit. Currently 38 out of 43 zones in the UK are in breach of the directive.
The UK is also facing similar proceedings in the European Court of Justice where it could be fined millions for not reducing pollution levels.
Caroline Russell, Green Party Local Transport Spokesperson said the government must take steps to prevent diesel vehicles entering towns.
“Diesel vehicles, even the latest Euro 6 standard, are polluting and dangerous to our health,” she said. “We must limit their use in towns and cities with ultra-low emission zones.”
But Richard Gane, director and transport sector specialist at supply chain company Vendigital, warned that phasing out diesel could have major implications for businesses.
“If the Government decides to fast forward its plans to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions, this would add weight to the growing environmental lobby against diesel-engine vehicles and potentially could lead to them being phased out, perhaps via an incentivised scrappage scheme,” he said.
“For businesses that rely on regular road transport deliveries, any movement away from diesel engine vehicles would have significant supply chain implications.
“Businesses will be hoping that any plans be offset by incentives that will enable them to switch to greener models.”
The Department for the Environment said that it could not comment on changes for diesel owners because of the upcoming election. But it said the government was committed to revising plans by the end of the year and complying with EU limits ‘in the shortest possible time.’
The ruling was welcomed by the British Heart Foundation, Asthma UK and Friends of the Earth.  A spokesman for BMW, which manufactures the MINI brand at a plant in
Oxfordshire, said: "As far as the ruling is concerned we do need to take a look at that." "As for the future of the diesel engine, I think for quite some time it's been clear that we've had a development strategy that is improving the efficiency of our petrol and diesel engines but also seeing the introduction of fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. "There's a constant strive to remove tailpipe emission altogether. As far as a time frame for that is concerned I wouldn't be so bold as to put one on that. But I would certainly point to the cars we've launched recently as steps in the right direction."

Mike Hawes, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), said: "Industry recognises the issues around air quality and is keen to see policy that reflects the progress made on vehicle emissions and wider challenges of CO2 reduction."
"Policies to improve air quality should focus on encouraging the uptake of the latest low emission vehicles, while also addressing other sources such as electricity generation and heating, which between them account for more than half of NOx emitted in the UK.
"Today's diesel engines are the cleanest ever, high tech filters capture 99% of particulates and NOx emissions are down 84% since 2000."A spokesman for the SMMT added: "We're stressing that this isn't just an issue with diesel engines. This is something that encompasses many other sectors as well."
"When you look at the UK-wide figure, road transport accounts for 27 percent of emissions while electricity generation is around 30 per cent. So there is that to bear in mind."

'Beach body ready?' ad banned from re-appearing

The advertising watchdog has launched a formal investigation into the "beach body ready" campaign and banned it from appearing again in its current form, it has announced.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said it had launched an investigation to establish if the ad for Protein World breaks harm and offence rules or is socially irresponsible.
It said: "We've met with Protein World to discuss its "Are you beach body ready?" ad campaign.
"It's coming down in the next three days and, due to our concerns about a range of health and weight loss claims made in the ad, it can't appear again in its current form.
"Although the ad won't appear in the meantime, we've launched an investigation to establish if it breaks harm and offence rules or is socially irresponsible.
"We will now carefully and objectively explore the complaints that have prompted concerns around body confidence and promptly publish our findings."
The advert, for protein shakes, features a model posing in a bikini and asks "Are you beach body ready?"
Many of the posters, which appear in London Underground stations, have been defaced and a petition calling for their removal has gathered tens of thousands of signatures.
The ASA said it had received 360 complaints to date about the campaign.
Richard Staveley, head of global marketing for Protein World, told ITV's Good Morning Britain yesterday that the tag "beach body ready" was simply asking women if they had obtained their goals.
He revealed that the company had received a bomb threat following the launch of the ad.
And he denied the image of the model had been altered, saying: "Our own aspirations are to make the nation healthier, to ask each one of us to set our sights higher, to be fitter, to be healthier."
Asked about the view that the advert suggests women cannot go on the beach in a bikini unless they look like the model in the advert, he said: "There is an irrational minority who have decided to interpret it in that way."
He added: "We've been inundated ... with people defacing adverts, ripping them down, climbing over rail tracks in order to graffiti them ... I think that's quite extreme behaviour.
"We've had threats on our head office, physical and violent threats. We had a bomb threat ... that's been reported to the police and I can't comment any further on that. It's currently being investigated."
He told the ITV show: "We're always going to be learning and going to listen to all sides of the story."
But he added: "It's been a brilliant campaign for us and I don't see us changing anything dramatically any time soon."
Beat, the charity that supports people with eating disorders, criticised the campaign, calling it "one more example of how we are subjected daily to what we are expected to accept and aspire to as the 'body ideal'".

'Am I being executed?' Brazilian killed by Indonesia unaware until end, says priest

A Brazilian man executed by firing squad along with seven other prisoners in Indonesia on Wednesday had no idea he was about to be killed until his final minutes, the priest who counselled him has said.
He also revealed that Mary Jane Veloso, a Filipino woman who won a dramatic reprieve, had been aware a new suspect in her case had surrendered to police but was only removed from the prison about an hour before the killings.
Rodrigo Gularte, 42, was shot dead alongside seven others, including four Nigerians, two Australians and an Indonesian, for smuggling cocaine into Indonesia in 2004.
Doctors had diagnosed the Brazilian with paranoid schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. A second diagnosis, commissioned by Indonesia’s attorney general, has not been made public.

Father Charlie Burrows, a priest who ministers to prisoners in Cilacap, said he had tried in vain to explain to Gularte for three days that he was about to be killed.
“He was hearing voices all the time,” Burrows told Irish radio. “I talked to him for about an hour and a half, trying to prepare him for the execution. I said to him, ‘I’m 72 years old, I’ll be heading to heaven in the near future, so you find out where my house is and prepare a garden for me.’
“But when they took [the prisoners] out of the cells … and when they put these bloody chains on them, he said to me, ‘Am I being executed?’ ” Burrows said.
“I said, ‘Yes, I thought I explained that you.’ He didn’t get excited – he’s a quiet sort of a guy – but he said, ‘This is not right.’
“He’s lost because he’s a schizophrenic. He asked if there was a sniper outside ready to shoot him, and I said no, and whether somebody would shoot him in the car, and I said no,” Burrows said.

After Gularte was strapped to a wooden plank, Burrows was permitted to see him again: “He said, ‘This is not right, I made one small mistake, and I shouldn’t have to die for it.’ So he was annoyed more than anything else, because he’s a soft-spoken, quiet and sensitive man.”
Burrows told Guardian Australia that guards on Nusa Kambangan, the prison island where Indonesia executes convicts, had broken down crying when 30-year-old Mary Jane Veloso said goodbye to her two children for what was thought to be the final time.
He said Veloso had shown “a false sense of joy” during her final visit with her family and sons, aged 12 and six, but broke down at 2pm on Tuesday when told it was time to say goodbye. “She begged for more time, ‘Will I not get longer with my children? They’ll never see me again, I’ll never see them again,’” Burrows said.

“The whole place broke down in tears. The warden and attorneys felt real bad about it. They said to me they didn’t agree with the thing, they just had to do their job, that there should be a moratorium.”
He said some of the guards had asked him: “Are we responsible for the suffering of this poor woman and the families?”
Veloso, sentenced to death after arriving in Yogyakarta in 2010 with 2.6kg of heroin in her suitcase, has claimed she was set up by a human trafficker. She was granted a reprieve late on Tuesday after the suspected trafficker surrendered to Philippine police. Veloso was told of the development on Tuesday afternoon, Burrows said, but her fate seemed sealed.
It was between 10pm and 11pm, when the prisoners were locked in their cells for the final time, that she was taken away. “We were in the cells, just the time they give to the spiritual companions, and they took her out,” Burrows said.

“In the last minute she was actually in the cell with the police, there was three police, and they took her out back to Yogyakarta.”
Just after 11pm the prisoners were taken individually from the cells and driven to the execution site. They would not have been aware Veloso had been spared until they assembled at the firing range, he said.
He said the two Australians, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, led hymns among the prisoners as they waited to be killed, joined by their spiritual advisers 30 metres away. “They were all trying to be strong because it was uppermost in their minds that they had made a mistake and that mistake has had a devastating effect on their families,” he said.
Nigerians Raheem Agbaje Salami (also known as Jamiu Owolabi Abashin), Silvester Obiekwe Nwolise, Martin Anderson and Okwuduli Oyatanze were also executed on Wednesday morning, along with an Indonesian, Zainal Abidin.

The Indonesian attorney general, HM Prasetyo, said on Wednesday the eight men, all drug offenders, had been executed simultaneously at 12.35am local time. They were declared dead three minutes later.
“The result of the second execution was better, more orderly and more perfect than the last,” he said, referring to executions carried out in January and noting the bodies were treated more “humanely” this time.
“Out of the eight executed, four, according to their last requests, are to be buried in their home countries,” Prasetyo said. “Two in Australia, one in Brazil, and one in Nigeria.”
Abidin, the only Indonesian among the eight, was buried in Cilacap, near Nusa Kambangan, on Wednesday morning. Salami was to be buried in Madiun, East Java, and Anderson in Bekasi, West Java, he said.
The bodies of Chan and Sukumarun were expected to arrive back in Australia for burial on Friday.

'Serial Liar' Murdered Baby Granddaughter

A 45-year-old man has been jailed for 25 years for murdering his five-week-old granddaughter Amelia Jones in South Wales.
Prosecutors said Mark Jones killed the tiny baby because he did not like the infant's father - Jones' daughter's boyfriend.
Jones had tricked his daughter Sarah into thinking he was ill for more than a year before his brutal attack on the baby at her home in Pontnewydd.
He claimed Amelia's death had been a tragic accident after he dropped her on two separate nights in November 2012.
Doctors found Amelia had suffered a catastrophic bleed to the brain as well as fractures to her skull, ribs and leg.
Jones had used illness to worm his way into Ms Jones' life - pretending to pass out in front her after telling her he had taken "anti-cancer drugs" and phoning her up masquerading as a doctor.
But it was all an act. When Ms Jones went to the cinema, he volunteered to babysit and later attacked Amelia.
Newport Crown Court heard the defendant called his daughter first, rather than dial 999, after Amelia stopped breathing.
She died 48 hours later in hospital - aged just 41 days old.
Experts believe she suffered a serious blow to the head and was vigorously shaken.
To make it look like he was indeed ill, Jones had hobbled around on a crutch with what appeared to be plastic tubes sticking out of his chest.
Newport Crown Court was told that Jones was a serial liar who could not be trusted.
During the impact statement Ms Jones read to the court, she said her life had been totally destroyed - and it had given her other children nightmares.
She said one of them had asked: "If grandad gets out of prison, will we have to move? I'm afraid he will come and kill me next."
To make matters worse, in the midst of her grief, her other children were taken off her by social services while a police investigation into her baby's death went ahead.
"My other three were taken away from me and I did not see them for another three weeks after Amelia had died," she said.
"I was even arrested, accused of killing Amelia. My life had been destroyed."
Three years before Amelia's death, Ms Jones had began a relationship with Ian Skillern who later became the father of her child.
Jones had been absent for a long period of Ms Jones's life, but in 2011 she tracked him down to mend their broken relationship.
But Jones did not like Mr Skillern and faked the illness in a bid to ingratiate himself with his daughter, the court was told, eventually killing the baby she had had with him.
Judge Wyn Williams said Jones had shown no remorse for his "wicked and despicable" actions.
He said: "It may well be that you are never released from prison or if you are, you will be a very old man."

righteousness:

Holy living based on God’s standard of holiness. See also holiness.

Sabbath: A day of rest; typically, Christians consider Sunday as the Sabbath Day.

“salt and light”: Jesus tells his followers in Matthew 5 that they’re the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Salt seasons food – bet you knew that already! In the same way, Christians are to season, or influence, the world they live in. Light refers to pointing the way to the Truth of Jesus Christ himself.

salvation: To experience salvation is to be freed from eternal punishment and hell. See also saved.

sanctification: To become progressively more holy and Christlike. Christians won’t be perfect in this earthly life, but through the process of sanctification, they come closer to that goal.

saved: To be saved is to have faith in Jesus Christ and the work he did on the cross (see also Blood of Christ). A saved person is in a secure position, being freed from the punishment of sin and promised to be with God in heaven after death.

scripture: Another name for the Bible.

Second Coming of Jesus Christ: Term that Christians use to describe Christ’s eventual return to the earth. Christ’s first coming was some 2,000 years ago, when he was born as a human child. When he comes for the second time, he’ll descend from the clouds (see Matthew 24:30).

secular: Worldly. Anything that isn’t spiritual in nature.

seeker-sensitive churches: A trend within some churches to attract new people by focusing on their needs and making worship services more specifically relevant to everyday life. Seeker-sensitive churches often use marketing techniques to attract people to church and integrate multimedia and entertainment as part of the worship service experience. Supporters of this movement see it as a way to effectively present Christianity to the 21st-century person, but critics of the seeker-sensitive movement feel that this thrust to attract people waters down the Christian message.

“set free in Christ”: See freedom from bondage.

sin: Any deliberate action, attitude, or thought that goes against God. People often think of sin as an obvious act, such as murder, adultery, or theft. However, sin is also wrongdoing that’s far more subtle and even unnoticeable at times, such as pride, envy, or even worry. Sin can either be something you shouldn’t have done, but did (sins of commission), or something you should’ve done, but didn’t (sins of omission).

sinful nature: A tendency to sin that has been passed down to each human by Adam and Eve. See also flesh, the and Fall of man.

“sitting at the foot of the cross”: Focusing on the reality of Christ’s agony and sacrificial death on the cross as well as the eternal love that God has for humans, which led Christ to make this sacrifice.

“slave to sin”: See freedom from bondage.

speaking in tongues: The phenomenon of an emotionally intense spiritual experience that prompts a person to start talking in a nonhuman speech. The tongues speaker believes that the words are an angelic language that the Holy Spirit gives so that he or she can pray spontaneously as directed by God. To a bystander, the words don’t resemble any humanlike languages and seem like gibberish or babble when listened to from a purely human standpoint. See also charismatics.

Spirit-filled Christian: A buzzword that has different meanings to different parts of the Church. Charismatics use the term to mean a Christian who speaks in tongues, but non-charismatics generally use the term to describe an earnest, obedient disciple of Christ. See also filled with the Spirit.

spiritual gifts: Special gifts that the Holy Spirit gives to Christians for the purpose of doing God’s work and building up the Church. Spiritual gifts include wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miraculous powers, prophecy, spiritual discernment, speaking in tongues, and interpretation of tongues, to name a few (see 2 Corinthians 12:8-10).

“surrender all”: See dying to self.

“take up my cross”: Refers to giving up one’s personal wants and desires to Jesus and living only for him. Jesus said, “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me” (Mark 8:34). See also dying to self.

testament: Refers to either a witness or a covenant. The Bible is made up of the Old Testament and New Testament.

“that still, small voice”: Refers to God speaking silently, not in an audible manner. See also God laid it on my heart.

“Thy will be done”: Praying thy will be done means that you’re asking God’s will be done in the world, not your own. Jesus taught his followers to pray this phrase in the Lord’s Prayer (see Matthew 6). When you pray thy will be done, you’re transformed, exchanging your will for his, forgetting about yourself, and turning over your needs and wants to God.

“turn the other cheek”: Expression means to not stick up for your rights, but rather to submit to others, even when they’ve wronged you. Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I tell you, don’t resist him who is evil; but whoever strikes you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also” (Matthew 5:38-39).

“walk with Christ”: See Christian walk.

“walking through the valley of the shadow of death”: Trusting God in the midst of difficult circumstances. Refers to Psalm 23:4: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

“walking with the Lord”: See Christian walk.

“washed in the Blood of Christ”: Refers to the cleansing power of the Blood of Christ. If a person has been washed in the Blood of Christ, he or she has been cleansed of his or her sins. See also Blood of Christ.

Western Church: The Christian Church that formed in the western part of the ancient world and became headquartered in Rome. The Western Church became the Catholic Church. The Protestant Church came out of the Western Church during the Reformation.

“What would Jesus do?”: A phrase that Charles Sheldon’s 1896 novel In His Steps focuses on and that became a popular craze among Christian youths in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The idea behind the phrase is to ask yourself what Jesus would do in your situation and then do it, regardless of the consequences. The Apostle Paul urges Christians to live their lives like Jesus did, because he’s the perfect, sinless model on which to base your life. See also Christlike.

Word, the: Term that refers to Jesus (see John 1) as well as the Bible.

works: Good behaviour or actions. Jesus Christ made it clear that humans aren’t saved by good works, but only by the grace of God.

“wrath of God”: God’s judgment on sinners.
WWJD: See What would Jesus do?

#NotGuilty: Oxford University student Ione Wells writes powerful open letter to sexual attacker to launch victims' campaign

A young woman has written a powerful open letter to a teenager who violently assaulted her as she tried to walk home in north London.
Ione Wells, a 20-year-old Oxford University Student, has given up the lifelong anonymity that all victims of sexual assault are entitled to, in order to launch the #NotGuilty campaign.
The student hopes the campaign will raise awareness that victims are never to blame for such attacks.
#notguilty is a campaign to abolish the view that people put themselves into situations of assault. It is also a...
Posted by Ione Wells on Saturday, 25 April 2015
In the letter published in the Oxford University’s Cherwell student newspaper, Ms Wells describes how the youth followed her as she left Chalk Farm tube station at around 1am on 11 April, before he dragged her to the ground by the hair and brutally smashed her head against the pavement.
During the callous attack, the teenager grabbed her breast so forcefully that he tore her bra in half. He fled the scene after her screams for help saw residents come out onto the street, and call the police.
She said he then followed another woman leaving the same tube station twenty minutes later, before he was arrested.
A 17-year-old has pleaded guilty to sexual assault in connection with the incident in court, and will appear at Highbury Magistrates Court on 6 May for a sentencing hearing, the Metropolitan Police have said.

Ms Wells asks him in the letter: "When you dragged me by my hair, and when you smashed my head against the pavement and told me to stop screaming for help… – did you ever think of the people in your life?"
"I don't know who the people in your life are. I don't know anything about you. But I do know this: you did not just attack me that night. I am a daughter, I am a friend, I am a girlfriend, I am a pupil, I am a cousin, I am a niece, I am a neighbour, I am the employee who served everyone down the road coffee in the cafe under the railway. All the people who form those relations to me make up my community, and you assaulted every single one of them."
She goes on to pledge to “never cease to fight” for the truth that “there are infinitely more good people in the world than bad."
"This letter is not really for you at all, but for all the victims of attempted or perpetrated serious sexual assault and every member of their communities," she writes.
Ms Wells declares she will not be deterred from "walking back home after dark," getting the last tube home, or walking down a street alone "because we will not ingrain or submit to the idea that we are putting ourselves in danger in doing so."
"We will continue to come together, like an army, when any member of our community is threatened, and this is a fight you will not win," she says.
The Cherwell newspaper is now urging others to contribute similar pieces and share their experiences "in order to establish a strong force of community overriding misdirected victim characterisation".
Ms Well student has tweeted to thank those who have supported her actions.
She said: "Wow - what a wonderful community. YOU have all proved my points about community in your support. Thank you! Let's do this! #notguilty".

Friend 'found Lil' Chris hanging'

Reality TV star and singer Lil' Chris was found hanging at his home by a friend, an inquest has heard.

The 24-year-old pop star, real name Chris Hardman, died on March 23 after struggling with depression. An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned in his home town of Lowestoft today.
Suffolk coroner Peter Dean said paramedics and police were called to his home in Union Road, Lowestoft, that morning and death was confirmed at 11.48am.
He added: "He had been found hanging at his home by a friend.
"Emergency services were called but attempts at resuscitation failed." Mr Hardman's friend, AJ Sutton, identified the body, the inquest heard.
Pathologist Richard Ball confirmed the cause of death as hanging.
Dr Dean said: "I would like to offer my thoughts and condolences to the family, friends and all those close to him for their loss."
Speaking soon after his death, Mr Hardman's family said he was "a huge personality who will be missed by everyone who knew him".
In a statement, they added: "Chris had struggled with mental health issues and depression in recent years.
"He was committed to helping others find better ways of overcoming this illness and publicly said he wished to find a cure.
"Despite this, his concern was always his family and his friends, whose happiness was his priority."
Mr Hardman shot to fame in Channel 4′s Rock School after Kiss frontman Gene Simmons made him the lead singer of a student band.
He was later offered a solo deal and went on to have a top five hit with Checkin' It Out in 2006.
Samaritans deputy chief executive Fiona Malcolm said: "If anyone has been affected by this news, or is struggling to cope, we would like to let people know that Samaritans is here for them if they need to talk."
The Samaritans can be contacted by phone on 08457 909090, email jo@samaritans.org, or you can find the details of your local branch at www.samaritans.org.
The inquest was adjourned until July 28.

ISS Cargo Spacecraft 'Plummeting To Earth'

A unmanned Russian spacecraft is spinning out of control and is believed to be plunging back to Earth after a failed mission to resupply the International Space Station.

"It has started descending. It has nowhere else to go," said an official, speaking anonymously to the AFP news agency.
"It is clear that absolutely uncontrollable reactions have begun."
The cargo ship is carrying a payload that includes three tons of fuel, water, food and oxygen for the astronauts stationed some 250 miles above Earth.
The Progress 59 spacecraft blasted off from Kazakhstan at about 8am UK time on Tuesday.
It reached orbit and deployed solar panels, but ground control then lost contact and was unable to confirm if it was ready to steer toward the ISS.

NASA said the craft was now in an uncontrolled spin.
Four attempts to regain control as the craft hurtled over Russian airspace were unsuccessful and a back-up plan to dock with the ISS on Thursday has been scrapped.
It is thought the Progress 59 will burn up when it re-enters the Earth’s atmosphere.
If that happens, it will be the second ISS resupply craft lost in the last six months following the spectacular launch explosion of a US Antares rocket in October.
NASA said the latest mission failure would not endanger the six crew living on the ISS.
The space station has enough food for four months and fuel for more than a year, according to NASA program manager Mike Suffredini.
The ISS is a multinational $100bn (£65bn) project - about the same size as a five-bedroom house – that currently hosts two Americans, one Italian, two Russians and an astronaut from Ukraine.

Nepal earthquake: Four-month-old baby is rescued after 22 hours trapped under rubble

Incredible images have emerged of the moment a four-month old baby was rescued from the rubble of a building devastated by the Nepal earthquake, 22 hours after the disaster struck.
The Nepalese newspaper Kathmandu Today published images of the dust-covered baby boy as he was pulled to safety by members of the army assisting the on-going search and rescue effort.
Soldiers initially missed the child as they searched through the wreckage for survivors and he was only found when they heard a faint cry from beneath the ruins of the building, leading them to check the area again.

The condition and whereabouts of his parents are unknown.
News of his rescue has been hailed as a "miracle" by many across social media. The 7.8 magnitude earthquake killed 5,000 people and over 6,500 were injured. Officials fear this death toll could double to 10,000.
