Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl formed the band Foo Fighters as a one-man project in 1994 after the passing of Kurt Cobain. Initially Dave recorded a demo tape of songs he had written while on tour with Nirvana but kept from his former bandmates because he was intimidated by Kurt's lyrical prowess. The album "Foo Fighters" -- written and recorded entirely by Dave -- was released in 1995, but Foo found true mainstream success with second album "The Colour and the Shape," which featured the single "My Hero."
