On Monday, Tesco announced the sad news that Ribena, Capri-Sun and Rubicon will no longer grace their shelves.
The decision to remove the drinks was made in a bid to tackle childhood obesity, and will come into action after the kids have gone back to school on 7 September.
The move may have been welcomed by health campaigners, but naturally, the internet is outraged...
Banning Ribena to halt child obesity is like banning Rennies to fight drug addiction.

Tesco banning Ribena? They sell cigarettes and alcohol but nah Ribena is a step too far

The problem with Tesco banning Ribena is you create a black market for it and three year-olds organising violent tricycle drive-bys.

When you realise Ribena is trending because it's being banned pic.twitter.com/JlT5lE5PNY

It is 2030. The Ribena speakeasys are flourishing. Home made moonshine Um Bongo floods the streets. Police can't cope

.@tesco I have a Tesco two miles away and an Asda two miles away. Guess where I'm going when Ribena's on my shopping list.

Tesco banning Ribena has infuriated me! Freedom of choice! Ribena is my drink of choice, just because parents can't say no to kids #fuming

@Tesco Hi. I'm wondering if you could recommend an alternative supermarket that hasnt removed my choice of buying original Ribena?
— Neil Robinson (@Entropy72) July 28, 2015
#SaveMyRibena I cant believe Tesco has fell for the #NannyState you can buy a mars bar or a bottle of vodka or cigarettes but not Ribena!
— Tara Hewitt (@Tara_Hewitt) July 27, 2015
@Tesco I am a fully fledged adult with a career. AND I drink Ribena. It's 1 of those perks of being an adult. Being able to buy it yourself.
— Antijanner (@Antijanner) July 27, 2015
im just off out, trying to score some ribena!
— happier than you (@defiantzombie) July 28, 2015
So are tesco going to ban their own brand sweets and crisps now? Cause they're probably contributing more to childhood obesity than ribena..
— Meg (@megan_dave) July 28, 2015
I'm telling you, when the Ribena black-market grows in size - deaths will happen. Not really protecting the children are you @Tesco?
