2007 - Gabriel Heinze not allowed to join Liverpool

JULY, 2007 | HEINZE'S LIVERPOOL MOVE BLOCKED | Gabriel Heinze had lost his starting place to Patrice Evra and was promised a summer exit. Liverpool met the £6.8 million valuation, but the offer was rejected. Former United chief executive David Gill said at the time: "We have received a written offer from Liverpool for Heinze and we have rejected that, because it's Liverpool." Sir Alex added: "Liverpool will not be getting Gabriel Heinze. We can put that to bed right now." Heinze went public with his desire to move to Anfield but eventually joined Real Madrid, despite rumours that he would join Crystal Palace and then immediately move to Anfield.
