Found throughout the world’s tropical oceans, Hawksbill turtles have inhabited the planet for over 100 million years. A vital link in marine ecosystems, they help maintain the health of coral reefs and sea grass beds. They are extensively poached for their coloured and patterned shells, which are sold in the market at high prices as "tortoiseshells."
