Shelley Long lit up the screen as waitress Diane on Cheers when it debuted in 1982, but behind the scenes she was apparently very difficult to work with. The perfectionist insisted on endless retakes and was said to keep her co-stars and the live audience waiting for nearly an hour as she had her hair and make-up redone, leading to tension with the cast and crew.
When she suddenly left after five years to focus on a movie career, Cheers moved on with Kirstie Alley and ran for another six successful seasons.
