David Caruso was the biggest star on the biggest TV drama when he abruptly quit in 1994 only four episodes into NYPD Blue’s second season, just after he’d won a Golden Globe Award for the role. The reason was a salary dispute, after he’d failed to get the enormous raise he’d been seeking.
Caruso expected movie stardom would follow but that proved elusive, so he eventually returned to TV in CSI: Miami.
