Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada



An uncontrolled wildfire burning near Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada, which is the heart of Canada's oil sands region, forced the evacuation of nearly 80,000 residents on May 3, 2016. The wildfire started on May 1 and reached Fort McMurray on May 3 due to strong winds and in spite of efforts from firefighters to curb the blaze.
