This 1983 hit is the work of Big Country, a Scottish quartet headed up by Stuart Adamson. Though the band was never really heard from again in America, they had considerably more success on their home turf with albums such as 1984's "Steeltown" and "The Seer," from 1986. Known by many as "the bagpipe song," in actuality there are no bagpipes in it; instead, the sounds you hear are a guitar fed through a multitude of effects!
