An early and stunning mix of rap and heavy metal, "Epic," went to No. 1 on the pop charts in 1990. The track, highlighted by singer Mike Patton's syncopated growl, laid down the blueprint for bands such as Limp Bizkit, Korn and Linkin Park, demonstrating how heavy metal could be equally radical and appealing to a mass audience. We never heard more radio hits from Faith No More, but their stamp on contemporary music was more than enough.
