Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae)

This image provided by the San Diego Zoo shows two-year-old tiger brothers Conrad and Thomas relaxing in the Tull Family Tiger Trail Friday May 23, 2014, at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

Population left: Less than 400
Sumatran tigers are the smallest surviving tiger subspecies; they are distinguished by heavy black stripes on their orange coats. Rampant deforestation and poaching have made the tigers' future look bleak.
