Vaquita (Phocoena sinus)

Vaquita or Gulf of California Harbor Porpoise (Phocoena sinus) caught as by-catch, critically endangered, Baja California, Mexico

Population left: Less than 100
One of the rarest marine mammals, vaquitas are often caught and drowned in gillnets used for illegal fishing operations in Mexico's Gulf of California. They have large dark rings around their eyes and dark patches on their lips.
