Emergency crews in disaster training as 'building collapses into Tube station'

Emergency crews took part in a graphic mock-up of the aftermath of a building collapse into a Tube station to test their response to mass casualties.
Blood-covered "victims", fake dead bodies and actors with sliced limbs and open wounds were part of the biggest disaster training exercise ever seen in Europe.
The scenario, at a disused power plant near the Dartford river crossing in Kent, involved a mocked-up Waterloo Tube station being "crushed" by thousands of tonnes of rubble following a building collapse.
Following year-long planning, blue-light teams and other professionals were tested on their ability to deal with more than 1,000 casualties as seven Tube carriages were entombed.
Firefighters, police officers and ambulance staff were involved in the operation alongside London local authorities, Transport for London and the capital's air ambulance.
London Fire commissioner Ron Dobson said: "Exercises of this scale are important to ensure that we are always ready to respond no matter what happens.
"You can't get this sort of experience from a text book. We need to play it like it's real and ensure that should the worst happen, our response is effective and well-co-ordinated."
The teams' response would be "rigorously observed" by independent evaluators so lessons can be learned from the exercise, he added.
Exercise Unified Response, funded by the European Commission Exercise Program and co-ordinated by the London Fire Brigade, also involved utility companies and search and rescue teams.
Disaster victim identification (DVI) teams from all UK police regions were working alongside other forensic specialists.
In total, more than 250 personnel were working at the scene and in a specially-constructed temporary mortuary during the four-day exercise.
Chief Constable Debbie Simpson, of the National Police Chiefs' Council, said: "Victim identification is never a pleasant subject to discuss but it is unfortunately a reality.
"When disaster strikes, families need to be confident that the authorities are doing everything they can to identify their loved ones in a dignified and respectful way, whilst supporting any criminal investigation.
"Importantly this process cannot be hurried. As frustrating as this can sometimes be, especially in a world of fast paced mainstream and social media, we have to be meticulous in our approach to ensure we achieve reliable scientific identification.
"It's not often we get to test working practices on such a scale and it's really positive to see so many of our European colleagues involved. Effective evaluation and debriefing will help highlight good practice and any areas for development."

Judge sums up in footballer Adam Johnson's under-age sex trial

The judge in the trial of England footballer Adam Johnson has begun summing up the case.
The former Sunderland winger is on trial at Bradford Crown Court accused of two counts of sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.
The 28-year-old pleaded guilty to charges of grooming and sexual activity with a child, involving kissing, on the first day the case was listed for trial.
Judge Jonathan Rose told the jury of eight women and four men: "In February last year, a 15-year-old girl told police that she had met and had intimate relations with the defendant, a professional footballer with Sunderland Football Club."
The judge told the jurors they had to decide whether Johnson digitally penetrated the girl and engaged in oral sex.
The two-week trial has heard that the girl was a "massive, massive Sunderland fan" who was infatuated with Johnson.
After meeting at the football club, the pair exchanged phone numbers and sent and received 834 WhatsApp messages in little more than a month, the court has heard.
Johnson met the girl in his black Range Rover on January 17 last year and signed two Sunderland shirts for her.
The footballer admits kissing her during a second meeting on January 30 but denies that any further sexual activity took place.
Judge Rose told the jury that the defence's case is that the girl is a "proven liar who has made up the other allegations".
He said: "It is quite clear, say the defence, that (the girl) is lying."
He said the defence claim Johnson is a "man to be believed", who has suffered "irreparable damage" to his footballing career and his relationship with his girlfriend and mother of his child, Stacey Flounders, as a result of his admissions.
Judge Rose said the prosecution's case is that Johnson, who has admitted being sexually attracted to the girl, is guilty.
He said: "He admits he made contact with her and then met her intending to engage in sexual activity with her.
"He admits that he kissed her."
The judge said the prosecution's case is that Johnson "has lied to his girlfriend, to police and to the court".

Kendall Jenner leaps out of taxi right before it crashes in Milan

That's some scary stuff!
While arriving to her hotel in Milan, Italy, Kendall Jenner made a quick escape out of her taxi right before it crashed on Feb. 26.
The supermodel is seen exiting her cab when the driver forgot to put on the break on and the car rolls back, almost knocking her over. Both the driver and Kendall jumped away from the car before it crashed into a pole behind it. The whole thing was caught by a slew of photographers and bystanders.
Fortunately, Kendall wasn't injured even though the car banged into her side.
The brunette looked shaken as she kept walking past the crowd and off to her hotel.
Earlier in the night, the leggy lady strutted her stuff during the Versace show, which is part of Milan's Fashion Week. Kendall and BFF Gigi Hadid, who opened and closed the show, made waves during the '70s-influenced show.
Makeup artist Pat McGrath did the makeup for the show, giving the gals a smudged out look with a natural lip and flushed cheeks. Redken Global Creative Director, Guido Palau, went old-school, parting the hair down the middle and keeping it messy. Gigi and Kendall also walked the runway with models Karlie Kloss, Adriana Lima, Jourdan Dunn and Taylor Hill.
Sounds like a great show -- we can't imagine that was exactly how Kendall wanted to unwind after a hectic night!

Gemma Collins blasts TOWIE producers for 'faking storylines' after her return

Gemma Collins returns to The Only Way is Essex tonight as part of the reality show's anniversary celebration.
But her surprise comeback has been hindered somewhat after she appeared in scenes claiming she knew a secret about Danielle Armstrong's ex James Locke.
Fresh from Celebrity Big Brother Gemma, 35, agonises over whether to tell Danielle that Locke has a new girlfriend.
Gemma decides to get involved and tells Danielle the bad news, but it seems as though the gossip is just that leaving the reality star running for the hills.
In teasers from Sunday's opening episode, Danielle, 28, can be seen breaking down after reading a text message about her former flame from returning cast mate Gemma
Clearly not good news, Danielle struggles to keep her composure as she chats to Lockie's BFF Pete Wicks in the scene and ends up blubbing on the tattooed hunk's shoulders.
Starting off a dramatic string of events, which sees Danielle confront her ex-boyfriend, James Locke is left furious with Gemma's interference.
According to the Star, the rumours about her ex's new girlfriend are not true and it's been reported that Gemma has accused TOWIE producers of lying about storylines to get her involved.
Danielle apparently told the paper: "Gemma was supposed to be back for more episodes but she's now dropped a bombshell that doesn't seem to be true, so she has done a runner.
"I spoke to her on the phone and she blamed it on producers saying they had made it up and approached her with the storyline," but TOWIE officials say that Gemma's claim is "100 per cent not true".
Reps for Gemma Collins have been contacted.

Jimmy Greaves told he ‘won’t walk again’ but Tottenham legend vows to keep fighting after surviving stroke

Jimmy Greaves has revealed he has been told by doctors that he ‘won’t walk again’ after suffering a stroke last May.
The Tottenham and England legend, 76, was admitted to hospital last summer before regaining consciousness, though the former striker was unable to speak.
Nine months on, Greaves continues his road to recovery, but admits he has been left ‘devastated’ by the news, but will always continue the fight.
“I remain in a wheelchair and it’s now likely I will stay this way for the rest of my life,” Greaves told the Sunday People.
“The doctors have told me I won’t walk again and that I will always need ongoing care.
“It was devastating to hear them say that but I will never stop trying to get better - and the main thing is that I’m still here fighting all the way.”
Greaves is regarded as one of the greatest English goalscorers of all time - he scored 44 goals in 57 games for his country and also netted a club-record 266 times in 379 matches for Tottenham.
After retiring from the game, Greaves co-hosted the popular Saturday lunchtime football show Saint and Greavsie alongside former Liverpool forward Ian St John.
The ex-Tottenham, Chelsea and West Ham star suffered a minor stroke in 2012, but appeared to have made a full recovery.
“My day-to-day life has changed quite considerably, but there’s no point asking, ‘Why me?’, Greaves continued.
“I’m not feeling sorry for myself, I’m just taking each day as it comes and trying to make small improvements all the time.
“If I can lift my arm that little bit further than before, that’s an improvement and I can take heart from that.
“My speech has come on a lot and I can communicate on the phone now.
“I’m watching a lot of sport on the TV and I get out of the house with my sons Andy and Danny whenever I can. You have to focus on the positives.
“I’ve still got my sense of humour and I’ve got my family all around me helping me all of the time. There are a lot of people I have to thank, but especially my family.
“They’ve supported me all the way and I couldn’t have got this far without them. I’m realistic about the future but I’ll never give up trying to improve.
“I still have a belief and a hope that I can keep getting better.”
Greaves was due to be inducted to Tottenham’s hall of fame last May, but the event was postponed due to his health. The ceremony will now take place on April 20th, alongside fellow icon Steve Perryman.

Tragic BBC girl, 15, was 'abused by world famous singer'

The 15-year-old girl at the centre of the Tony Blackburn sex claims was abused by a "world famous" singer she met on Top of the Pops, it was claimed today.
Kelly Gold, a close friend of Claire McAlpine and victim of paedophile DJ Jimmy Savile, waived her anonymity to claim the teenager was taken to a hotel by the star after being picked out of the crowd on the BBC show in 1971.
The pair had dinner and then had sex, she claims.
Weeks later, Miss McAlpine committed suicide at her home in Watford.
Mrs Gold, who was pictured with Miss McAlpine on stage during the show dancing with Savile, vowed to name the star who she says is still alive.
The former nurse, 60, told the Sunday Mirror BBC roadies picked Miss McAlpine before she was "whisked away" to spend the night with the star at the hotel in west London.
The singer, she claims, went on to have several hits and is a household name.
"Claire's voice needs to be heard and her death fully investigated. Several people involved in abusing her are still alive," she said.
"She has been labelled a fantasist in a bid to cover up what happened. She would still be alive today if they had listened to her."
Miss McAlpine left behind a diary containing claims she had slept with Blackburn, an allegation he has always strongly denied.
Today, further allegations emerged as it was revealed a woman has claimed Blackburn took her out on dates when she was 14 and he was 23.
Denis Stone told The Sun on Sunday she had a series of dates with Blackburn in 1966 after meeting him in her home town of Poole, Dorset.
A spokesman for Blackburn said he strenuously denies the claims, adding the veteran radio host has "never dated or met this woman".
Mrs Stone, now 63, told the paper: "I met him at a place called Rockley Sands. It used to put on bands.
"It was a caravan park that my parents used to manage. I was 14 at the time and we got chatting.
"But he was the perfect gentleman and he never suggested anything. It was completely innocent.
"He asked me if I would like to go for a drink and because he had a car I thought yes. I didn't know who he was - he just said his name was Tony.
"He used to pick me up and we used to go for drives. I probably saw him six times in all over a period of about three months.
"My mum and dad didn't know - said I was going out with friends."
Blackburn, 73, had his £200,000-a-year BBC contract terminated last week following a dispute over his testimony to the independent review into Savile's sexual abuse at the BBC.
Blackburn told Dame Janet that he had not been quizzed by Bill Cotton, a senior BBC executive, and Sir Brian Neill QC, a lawyer who oversaw an inquiry into Top of the Pops, over allegations that he invited Miss McAlpine back to his flat and seduced her.
But he later told the retired judge, via his solicitor, that he accepted that she "might well prefer" documentary evidence that showed that the questioning had taken place.
Following the release of the report, Director-general Lord Tony Hall said he "fell short of the standards of evidence that such an inquiry demanded".
Blackburn, who hosted shows on Radio 2 and BBC Radio London, claimed he has been made a scapegoat and will launch a personal libel action against Lord Hall.

UK weather: 'White Easter' snow forecast as polar plunge set to bring ice and sub-zero temperatures

Britain is set to see a 'White Easter' as a polar plunge strikes the country, bringing snow , ice and temperatures as low as -14C.
The plunge - the same phenomenon that triggered the 2010 Big Freeze - is expected to result in colder-than-average weather across the UK in late March.
Temperatures will drop to below zero most nights throughout the month, leading to potentially dangerous snowy and icy conditions, forecasters say.
Then, as the end of March approaches, the country is set to be gripped by a longer 'freeze', with a White Easter' expected from March 25 to 28.
These snowy conditions, along with the two-week school holidays, are likely to see families facing transport problems at one of the busiest times of year for leisure travel.
The Met Office said the cause of the expected chill is the same sudden polar 'plunge' that delivered two-week freezes with widespread snow and -14C to-18C lows in recent years.
Known as a 'Sudden Stratospheric Warming,' high-altitude air over the North Pole warms up, shunting cold low-level Arctic air south to Britain for up to 14 days.
Three previous SSWs to hit Britain saw -18.4C in Highland, Scotland, in February 2009, -18C in Powys, Wales, in November 2010 - starting a month-long freeze - and January 2013's -13.6C two-week cold spell.
March's snow potential is being boosted as the Met Office said the month is favoured to see higher-than-normal rainfall - which falls as snow in freezing air.
The Met Office March to May forecast is being briefed to the Cabinet Office, transport bosses, councils and emergency services.
Britain's coldest ever March temperature is -22.8C, on March 14, 1958, at Logie Coldstone, Aberdeenshire.
The coldest ever April temperature is -15.0C on April 2, 1917, at Newton Rigg, Cumbria.
Forecaster Brian Gaze of The Weather Outlook said: "With the cold pattern persisting and a cold start to spring, the chances of snow at Easter are quite high."
A Met Office forecaster said: "March looks generally unsettled. Rather cold and changeable conditions look likely to dominate mid-March, with the airflow coming from a northwesterly direction much of the time.
"Temperatures will be generally rather below average for March, with overnight frosts expected on many nights. There will be local sleet or snow."
The Met Office March to May forecast said: "The greatest risk of cold weather impacts is in late March and early April, due to the likelihood of a sudden stratospheric warming event.
"These events more often than not result in conditions associated with colder and drier-than-average conditions across the UK in early spring.
"There are renewed signals for a sudden stratospheric warming in early March, with the potential to increase the chances of cold weather later in March and early April."
It comes as the Government has issued a health warning for 'severe cold' in the North and Midlands over the weekend, lasting until lunchtime on Tuesday - the first day of spring.
The Met Office warned of snow and sleet mixed with rain as most parts are due showers from Monday to Wednesday. Higher ground is most at risk of snow.
Temperatures hit -8C early on Saturday in Scotland and -7C in England. Nights down to -4C are forecast by MeteoGroup.
The Met Office Cold Alert said: “There is a 90 per cent probability of severe cold. Cold nights are expected in the North and Midlands. The South and East will feel cold.
“Rain, perhaps preceded by snow, is expected to cross the country during Monday and Tuesday.”
A Met Office forecaster added: “On Wednesday, colder weather with scattered heavy wintry showers will spread to all areas.”

LEICESTER CITY 1-0 NORWICH CITY
It was looking like a frustrating afternoon for both sides, with the pair in desperate need of points for contrasting reasons.

Ulloa bags stunning late winner

Leicester are five points clear at the top of the Premier League after sub Leonardo Ulloa scored in the 89th minute to secure a dramatic 1-0 win over Norwich.
Usually ebullient, the leaders were kept in check for the vast majority of the game by a well-organised Norwich side, desperate for points themselves as they battle the drop,
However, with time running out for the hosts, Ulloa turned in a low cross from Marc Albrighton to earn a victory which could have a huge impact in the title race.
Unfortunate Norwich departed with nothing despite a gutsy display, and were left to rue a first-half miss from Cameron Jerome, who headed wide from close range after getting on the end of a corner.
With their title rivals inactive, Leicester had a chance to steal a march, but were stymied early on by a Norwich side who had been cleverly set up by boss Alex Neil.
Defensive trio Russell Martin, Timm Klose and Ryan Bennett kept Jamie Vardy and Shinji Okazaki quiet, while hard-working duo Ivo Pinto and Robbie Brady patrolled the flanks.
However, the Canaries were not clinical enough on the break, Jerome taking a poor touch after latching onto a Nathan Redmond pass, when he should have shot first-time.
Leicester enjoyed a brief period of pressure around the quarter-hour mark, Okazaki having a close-range flick well-blocked by Bennett before a Martin clearance flashed just wide of his own goal.
Ten minutes later, Mahrez had a shot blocked by Martin after a delightful feint in the box, and a Marc Albrighton free-kick drifted just wide, with Robert Huth inches away from getting a decisive touch.
But it was far from one-way traffic and Norwich should have taken the lead five minutes before the break, as Jerome rose well to get on the end of a terrific Brady corner, only to glance his header wide of the post.
The Canaries then had a penalty shout but Wes Morgan did not appear to know much about it as a Jerome shot crashed off his elbow, and ref Swarbrick was probably right not to award a spot-kick.
Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy had not been required to make a save in the first-half but he was busier after the break as Leicester upped the ante, getting down well to keep out a Vardy free-kick and a low shot from Albrighton.
But the hosts were not exactly laying siege to the Norwich goal and boss Claudio Ranieri called for reinforcements, bringing on Jeff Schlupp, who looked lively on his return from injury, Andy King and Ulloa.
However, it looked like being a very frustrating day for Leicester and Norwich almost went in front with five minutes left, Redmond unleashing a fine shot from distance, which flew just wide of the post.
But Leicester's amazing season took another stunning turn with a minute left, Mahrez playing in Albrighton, whose superb low right-wing cross was turned in by Ulloa to spark jubilant scenes among the home supporters at the King Power.
Norwich flung on forwards Dieumerci Mbokani and Patrick Bamford, and the latter had a half-chance to snatch a point in injury-time, only to shoot wide after Leicester had struggled to clear a high cross.
But the leaders survived and their fans were able to greet the final whistle with a huge roar of relief just a couple of moments later.
The Foxes will now look on with interest at how their title rivals from north London fare on Sunday, before they entertain West Brom in another huge match on Tuesday night.
Norwich remain outside the drop zone only on goal difference but, if they continue to show the application and skill they did here, the Canaries will believe safety is attainable.

Carragher hits back at Diouf: He scored less than me!

Jamie Carragher has responded to criticism from El-Hadji Diouf by claiming that he scored more goals than the former striker during his time at Liverpool!
Diouf claimed on Thursday that Carragher was a "s**t", and also labelled him a "f*****g loser".
Carragher, though, has now issued a withering put-down to the former Senegal international, insisting that he found the net more often than Diouf at Anfield.
"The other big difference is he's scored less goals for LFC in the Premier League than me! (Not counting OGs!!!)," he wrote on Twitter.
While that may not be true - the former centre-back and the ex-striker both scored five goals at Anfield - the fact that Diouf's job was to hit the back of the net and Carragher's was to keep them out suggests that the forward didn't quite have the desired impact on Merseyside.
Carragher retired at Liverpool following over 500 appearances, while Diouf was offloaded to Bolton in 2005 and has since played for six clubs, including Doncaster Rovers and Leeds United.

Who is Marcus Rashford? Manchester United's exciting young striker who scored twice against Midtjylland

Teenage striker Marcus Rashford exploded onto the scene last night, scoring twice in Manchester United’s 5-1 win over Midtjylland despite it being his first senior appearance.
The 18-year-old came into the starting line-up after Anthony Martial was injured in the warm-up. His name was not even listed under the squad list on United’s programme.
So, who exactly is this exciting young upstart?
Marcus Rashford
Date of birth: 31 October 1997 (18 years old)
Place of birth: Wythenshawe, Greater Manchester
Position: Striker
Early career
Rashford signed for United in 2014, turning down the chance to sign for rivals Manchester City.
He had been spotted while playing for Fletcher Moss juniors’ football club, which also gave birth to the careers of Wes Brown, Danny Welbeck, Ravel Morrison, Kyle Bartley and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.
He was not initially thought of as an out-and-out striker, more of a wide forward, but gradually grew into the role as he progressed through United’s youth ranks.
Youth team record
Rashford was the club’s top scorer in last year’s under-18s side with 13 goals and made his debut for the reserve side in a Lancashire Senior Cup tie against Rochdale.
Before the MIdtyjlland game, his career highlight was an impressive showing against PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Youth League, scoring twice with one coming from the penalty spot.
His first reserve team goal came in a 6-1 win over Leicester City before Christmas. By then, he had already featured in first-team matchday squads for meetings with Watford and Leicester, thanks in part to United’s rotten injury record.
What people say
"Marcus is explosive, he’s a very talented boy but a good, hard worker as well. He’s a good lad to have in the side because he puts a shift in for the team. He’s explosive and he scores goals." – Nicky Butt, Manchester United academy director
"One we saw starting to emerge as he grew into his body more was Marcus Rashford. He put some exciting parts of games together and we saw some exciting things. He's emerging and starting to do more." – Paul McGuinness, former Manchester United under-18s manager
“This club is all about bring young players through [and] we've seen a special debut and hopefully his career will kick on from here. It was worrying at the start of the game [when Martial couldn't play] because he's a top centre forward. But for Rashford that's what it's all about coming in and taking your chances. There were two good goals. He showed awareness and they two proper centre forward goals.” – Paul Scholes, former Manchester United midfielder
“It was unbelievable. In the first half he ran too much at the sidelines. I said to him at half-time that he had to be in the width of the goal and then he shall score. You see there that he scores two goals. It is fantastic for him.” – Louis van Gaal, Manchester United manager

Miley Cyrus planning to make Liam Hemsworth her 'baby daddy'

Miley Cyrus is keeping everyone guessing amid reports that she is planning to have a baby with her former fiancé Liam Hemsworth. The pair recently rekindled their romance, and the Wrecking Ball singer is said to be eager to start a family soon.
According to OK! a source reportedly told the magazine that in view of their previous split in 2013, Miley is insecure about her relationship, and is pushing the baby idea as part of a 'plan to keep her man.'
"[Miley Cyrus] would do anything to keep Liam by her side and thinks a baby would be the perfect way," the source told the magazine. Although the source confirmed Miley Cyrus is not currently pregnant, they added that "she is out of her mind over Liam right now".
Earlier Gossip Cop, claimed Miley Cyrus "has a plan to keep her man from calling it quits; she wants to have his baby. I heard her say, 'Liam needs to cut out the little boy s**t! We're getting married b***h, and he's gonna be my baby daddy ... I wouldn't put it past her to secretly get pregnant as a way to keep Liam tied to her," the source alleged.
According to Hollywood Gossip an insider commented: "He is so family-oriented, she knows that Liam would do whatever it took to give their baby a stable life. Miley is constantly texting him and frantically checking to see if he has gotten back to her. She says stuff like – 'I'm gonna change his life, he just doesn't know it yet.'"
Another insider added that Miley Cyrus and Hemsworth are "on the same page" as they make plans for their future together. While there has been no comment from Miley about the pregnancy rumours, in a cryptic Instagram post on Wednesday (24 February), she shared a photo that read: "All of this is temporary." She captioned the photo: "So stop worrying bout stupid s***."
The pair rekindled their romance during the 2015 Christmas holidays. An earlier report claimed they had even had a secret marriage, tying the knot on a beach in Australia. It was also recently reported that Cyrus was forcing Hemsworth to sign a $176m pre-nuptial agreement to protect her wealth — worth about $160m — in case the marriage doesn't work out.

James Martin Hits Out At 'Saturday Kitchen' Budget Cuts

James Martin has hit out at his BBC bosses for making cuts on ‘Saturday Kitchen’.
The chef, who announced his departure from the show earlier this week, claimed that budget cuts had meant less guests were invited on to appear, and the studio was left without running water.

Speaking on his new cookery tour, Plates, Mates & Automobiles, James joked that he was off the leash after quitting and could finally reveal the truth about ‘Saturday Kitchen’.
Asked why members of the public no longer joined him and other star guests on the show, The Mirror quotes him as saying: “That wasn’t my decision. I liked having the studio guests. It was the BBC’s decision.”
Throwing his hands in the air, he added: “Budget cuts... and don’t look at me, I didn’t get a pay rise.”
James also claimed that the sink on the set hadn’t had worked for two years, and that he would have to pretend to wash his hands.

The TV chef will host his last ‘Saturday Kitchen’ next month, after quitting to concentrate on other projects.
He said in a statement: “I would like to personally thank all the viewers for turning 'Saturday Kitchen' into a three million-plus smash hit. I could not have done it without them,” he said in a statement.
“I would also like to thank the BBC and ‘Saturday Kitchen’ for the great opportunity they gave me. It has been an amazing journey and I have been privileged to work with some of the world’s greatest chefs and some of the greatest names in showbiz.”
James has hosted 'Saturday Kitchen' for 10 years
James later claimed that he wanted his weekends back, after fronting the show for 10 years.
He told Radio 2: “You know, 10 years of working every weekend with the same team [is hard].
“The BBC have been great with me about it, they understand. Ten years is a long time. And for a chef as well you're giving up your Fridays as well."
Guest presenters will front ‘Saturday Kitchen’ from April until a new host is found, while James will continue to be seen on ‘Saturday Kitchen Best Bites’ on BBC Two on Sunday mornings.
