Bobby Davro has claimed his EastEnders payday couldn't support his family and led to him quitting the show.
The former soap star insisted he turned to other projects in order to earn enough money to live on , and admitted he couldn't turn down the offers coming in.
Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, he said: "I couldn't afford to stay on EastEnders because I needed a certain amount of money to run my lifestyle.
"I've got an ex-wife and children to support. I kept getting offered other jobs that would benefit me more so I had to take the financial step and leave the show."
Bobby - who joined the show in 2007 before leaving a year later - revealed how he made the decision to quit when he realised he could make more money to appear in panto.
However, he doesn't look back on his time as Vinnie Monks with bitterness - although he wishes he'd had more ambitious and serious storylines.
"I enjoyed my time on EastEnders but there wasn’t the opportunity to get involved in a big way. They didn’t write enough for my character," he said.
"Maybe the character just wasn’t
big enough for them to develop. That happens in soaps.
“I didn’t want to stay if things weren’t going to develop. They said they couldn’t promise it would and I left.”
