18 hotels that are worth staying at for their history alone

It was here in the summer of 1945 that Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin met to regulate their respective zones of influence in Europe following the defeat of Nazi Germany in the Second World War. It was originally built during the reign of Kaiser Wilhelm II as a bolthole for his son and daughter-in-law.

Every building has its own history but very few have held events and guests which have shaped the world as we know it. Though they may seem unassuming from the outside, these 18 hotels have all witnessed history in the making, from phone calls which started wars to sex scandals which shocked a nation.
Sure to attract many a history fan, plans have recently been revealed to turn the US embassy building in London into a luxury hotel. The building, which sits in Grosvenor Square, will house 137 bedrooms with room for 1,000 guests.
THE GRAND HOTEL, BRIGHTON
