Hairstyle Of The Month: Rita Ora’s Sexy Side-Swept Waves

With her cool-girl style and her serious singing skills, Rita Ora has had an easy time winning our admiration. The Brit can also rock quite the sexy hairstyle, as she recently proved with this glam voluminous side-swept ‘do. “This sexy take on a classic look is stunning for parties and special events, but will also last you well into the next season. Wear it anytime you want to elevate your style a bit,” says Cortney Peck, stylist at Boston’s renowned Jeffrey Lyle Salon.
We know we can’t wait to imitate Rita’s stunning hairstyle, and we’re sure you feel the same way, so we got Cortney to share her tips for stealing those retro-meets-modern waves.

Hairstyle Of The Month: Sexy Side-Swept Waves a la Rita Ora

Get Rita’s Gorgeous Style:

Step 1: Before you can walk out looking red carpet-ready, there’s a bit of prep involved. Your first step is to shampoo and condition with volumizing shampoo and conditioner. We like John Frieda Luxurious Volume Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner.
Step 2: On damp locks, spray in a volumizing root spray (Try KMS California Add Volume Volumizing Spray) then rough dry hair upside down until it’s 85-90% dry, making sure to get lots of volume at the roots. Quick Tip: You can also get natural, lasting volume with a targeted product like RapidHair’s Hair Volumizing Formula.
Step 3: Using a round brush, blow hair out for volume and wave and set with pins as you go to ensure lasting hold.
Step 4: Let locks cool then spray with medium to strong hold hairspray (try R+Co’s Outer Space Flexible Hairspray).
Step 5: Now it’s time to remove those pins, do a side part, and shape hair in any direction you want using a boar bristle brush. Quick tip: If your hair isn’t easily transformed into waves via a blowout, you can always add more bounce and curl with a curling iron.
Step 6: Take your pointer finger to lift the top section next to your part up slightly and spray with strong hold hairspray.
Step 7: After pulling hair to the side, fingercomb curls, twisting the ends and placing them however you like. Just make sure to keep the mid shaft sleek.
Step 8: Finish off with strong hold hairspray and place pins, if needed, in the nape area to make sure hair stays to one side.
