Mario Gotze will not be welcomed back to Borussia Dortmund with open arms.
The Liverpool transfer target is expected to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season but fans of his former club still appear to be unhappy about the nature of his exit.
And they expressed their feelings with a strongly-worded banner this weekend, after it was suggested he could return to the Westfalenstadion.
Prior to the 3-2 victory over Werder Bremen, the Yellow Wall produced a banner which read: “Milan or Madrid – Just not Dortmund. P*** off Gotze.”
Although he went on to score the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final, he has failed to establish himself as a regular in the Bayern team.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is keen on bringing his former playmaker to Anfield this summer.
Klopp believes that he is in pole position to sign the 23-year-old, despite interest from elsewhere.
Gotze has spent the majority of the 2015/16 season recovering from a niggling hamstring problem but is back in action and scored for Germany last week.
Liverpool legend Jan Molby is certain that Gotze would end up being a valuable asset if he was signed.
"Three years ago when he left Borussia Dortmund, there wasn’t a club in the world that wouldn’t have taken Mario Gotze," declared Molby.
"Things haven’t progressed quite as quickly as we expected since – although he has scored a World Cup final winner in that time! - but if Liverpool can get him in the summer, they’ll be acquiring a top class talent.
"It can be hard at Bayern Munich. It’s a winning machine, like Liverpool in the 1970s and 80s, and if you don’t do it for a few games then they’ll bring in someone else. Gotze’s had injuries and he’s had dips in form, and he’s lost his way slightly.
"But Klopp has had him firing before. At Dortmund he was irresistible.
"You can say it would be a gamble if Liverpool were to get him, but he’s 23, and has massive ability.
"You can never have too many good attacking players in your squad. That’s what wins you games."
Liverpool fans! Would Mario Gotze be a good signing?
