All-weather silk

Did you know that a single spider can produce up to seven types of silk from its spinneret glands for different purposes? Other than capturing prey, spiders use silk webs as safety trail lines, to cover their eggs, as an alarm system against predators, to attract the opposite sex, and in some cases, as food. The silk fibers have tensile strengths comparable to steel.
