15 thoughts we all had watching the final Top Gear with Clarkson, Hammond and May

We couldn’t help but get nostalgic for Jeremy Clarkson’s unique TV style as we finally got to see the ousted presenter’s last Top Gear episodes.
It might have had the guys racing/destroying caravans, getting stuck in fords and splattered with mud while wearing dinner suits but this wasn’t Top Gear as we’d ever seen it before. Gone was the studio audience and instead of Jezza, Richard Hammond and James May opening the show with a whole load of banter, there was just the other two and an air of sadness.
The pre-recorded sections were glued together with some awkwardness and to explain the whole Clarkson thing without mentioning the whole “he’s been sacked” fracas, there was a huge elephant. Because symbolism.
(Even if it wasn’t completely obvious)
Here’s what else was getting people talking…
1. What the awkwardness of the episode reminded people of
2. Realising (finally) what the regular studio audience normally added
3. People are still wondering what happened to the Top Gear dog
4. Jeremy was on form when discussing the merits of classic cars
5. Even people who weren’t petrol heads loved Top Gear
6. Richard Hammond’s wing-walking was awesome
7. Jeremy Clarkson getting towed by the AA was a must for a finale
8. Chris Evans and the new TG team have some huge boots to fill, if they can get people to tune it at all
9. Because the Clarkson, Hammond, May line up is the *real* show
10. Top Gear is never better than when caravans are being destroyed
11. Mention of Yorkshire got people nervous – the scene of the fracas
12. And because Yorkshire was getting torn up by the trios’ SUV challenge
13. But it was worth it to see May fall over, Clarkson do a little wee in his submerged car and the Hamster lose a shoe in deep mud
14. Jeremy shouted: “I hate working on Top Gear” after he got his car stuck in what he thought was a ford (it blatantly wasn’t)
Then it was time for goodbyes from Richard and James in the eerily quiet studio.
15. And ultimately…
Right? Anyone for a steak.
