The magician and entertainer Paul Daniels has been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour, his family has revealed.
"We can confirm that one of our greatest magicians and entertainers of all times, Paul Daniels, has sadly been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour," the 77-year-old's publicist said in a statement.
"On behalf of Paul, Debbie and their families, we thank you for your kind concerns and support at this sad time and ask that their privacy continues to be respected."
Daniels and his wife Debbie McGee starred in The Paul Daniels Magic Show, which ran for 15 years.
At the height of his career he entertained the likes of Princes William and Harry, the Sultan of Brunei and the Sultan of Oman.
The entertainer burst onto our TV screens in 1970 when he came in second on the talent series Opportunity Knocks.
He was given his own series in 1979 with the Paul Daniels Magic Show, where he coined his famous catchphrase: "You'll like this ... not a lot, but you'll like it".
When the series ended in 1994 he went on to host numerous TV quiz shows, including Every Second Counts, Odd One Out and Wipeout.
He also toured the country with his popular magic stage shows.
In later years he participated in various reality TV shows, including Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity Wife Swap, in which he lived with Vanessa Feltz. He and his wife were also featured in a Louis Theroux documentary.
According to his website, he is the only magician in the History of the London Magic Circle to receive all three of their top awards.
