The X Factor: Nick Grimshaw quits as judge and presenter Caroline Flack 'axed' in another series shake-up

The X Factor panel is set for yet another shake-up with judge Nick Grimshaw quitting the series. The BBC Radio 1 DJ decided to quit after just one season, despite describing the role as a "once in a lifetime" opportunity. Reports are also claiming the show's creator Simon Cowell has sacked presenter Caroline Flack after a string of on-air mishaps.
Confirming the news on his breakfast show, Grimshaw said of his departure: "I did love it and it's not a diss to the show. It's a great show and I loved it. But it's definitely a once in a lifetime style thing." He added jokingly: "You can't have a curry when you're on it on a Saturday night because you're there. What's really good about X Factor is watching it at your house with your friends [and] having a curry. When you're there, there's no curry. Simon promised me curry."
A spokesperson for the radio DJ added in a statement: "After careful consideration, Nick has decided to rule himself out as a judge on this year's X Factor. He loved working on last year's series alongside Rita, Cheryl and Simon but it was very much a once in a lifetime experience."
The X Factor organisers have also reacted to the news, admitting they were disappointed to see Grimshaw leave saying: "Nick was a great mentor on last year's series. He did a fantastic job with the boys' category and we'd like to thank him for all his hard work. We are sad to see him go but wish him all the best. Details for the new series of The X Factor are still being discussed and will be announced in due course."
Although discussions are still underway concerning Grimshaw's replacement, a source has told The Sun that One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson could be a favourite after his guest appearance at judges' houses in the last season. The insider said: "Louis Tomlinson is very likely to replace Grimmy. He agreed in principle to the job while assisting Simon Cowell during the judges' houses round last year."
An insider also claims Flack, 36, has been let go from her post as co-presenter alongside Olly Murs as the format of having two hosts wasn't working. The source told the newspaper: "Caroline's a really experienced broadcaster but the combination of two presenters just didn't work out this year. It's unfortunate for her, but the decision gives her the opportunity to take on a major West End role, which is something she's wanted for a long time."
IBTimes UK was yet to receive any comments from representatives of Grimshaw and Flack before publication.
