Reports of tension behind the scenes on 'Britain's Got Talent' have been rife this year, and now Amanda Holden has claimed that a joke Simon Cowell made about David Walliams while recording the new series went too far.
Back in January, David was left speechless when Simon made a dig about his recent divorce from Lara Stone at the 'BGT' auditions in London.
The music mogul asked one contestant why she wasn’t married, which prompted David to flip the question on him.
But Simon hit back, saying: “Well, why aren’t you married?”
Mandy has now had her say on the situation, and when asked by Fabulous magazine if Simon had overstepped the mark, she agreed, saying: "Yeeeah… David made it personal [first]… he dares it and Simon comes straight back in at him, and the joke ends there because he can always top David.
She added: "He’s out-funnied David a lot this series. David is very pissed off, actually."
An audience member told The Sun at the time that the joke had not exactly gone down well.
“You could tell Simon knew straight away that he had put his foot in it," they said.
“David was a little caught out by the comment. While they were waiting for the next act to come out, he went to talk to Simon.
“They had a few words with each other and seemed to sort it out.”
David and Lara called time on their five-year marriage last March, before David filed for divorce in September, citing “unreasonable behaviour”.
They also have a two-year-old son Alfred together.
He recently admitted that he has a "difficult" relationship with Simon, describing it as "love/hate" during an interview with James Corden.
