Coronation Street’s Claire King is worried she could lose her job under the new boss.
The actress, who plays Erica Holroyd, fears producer Kate Oates will want to make her mark on the soap following reports of plans to kill off a number of key characters.
Claire, 53, admitted: “I don’t know if I will be safe. They always like to put their own stamp on things, I have been around the block a few times so I know how it works.
“It will be fine if she feels the character does not work. We are all self-employed and you adapt and change when things happen.”
Kate, who starts on Corrie this week, transformed Emmerdale during her five years in charge.
Notably, she killed off a number of characters in a helicopter crash.
Claire added: “We have all seen what she has done with Emmerdale.
“We all think she will be a great asset for Corrie.”
But boss Kate played down rumours she was planning to dram-atically revamp the ITV soap when she spoke to the Mirror last week.
She said: “Everyone says am I going to shake it up? It’s such a long standing show that you have to respect what is there and it’s history.
“For me it’s about telling the best stories I can and using the characters the best way I can.
“You just want to tell the most engaging, thought-provoking, heartfelt stories you can. It’s about balance the whole time.”
She has also previously spoken out to reassure the cast their jobs are safe, saying in January: “I think the show has a great cast.
“I know a lot of them already and nobody has cause to be afraid.”
During her stint at Emmerdale, Kate introduced Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson to the cast, so it is thought the new boss may add some more glamour to the Cobbles.
Claire, who previously played Kim Tate in Emmerdale for 10 years, also told how the filming schedule on Coronation Street was tougher.
She said: “It is intense. During my day in Emmerdale it was three episodes a week which was easy peasy. But now you are grinding out and as soon as someone is ill everything has to be re-shot.”
Claire joined Corrie in 2014 and has become a favourite with viewers.
Her character recently shared a kiss in the Rovers with Dev Alahan, played by Jimmi Harkishin, despite insisting they were friends. She also had a drug storyline, after she offered to get cannabis for ill Izzy Armstrong.
