The former child actress who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Helen Keller in "The Miracle Worker" (1962) and starred as "identical cousins" in the 1960s sitcom "The Patty Duke Show," died of sepsis from a ruptured intestine. Her manager said in a statement, "She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a friend, a mental health advocate and a cultural icon. She will be greatly missed.” Two of her three sons, Sean Astin and Mackenzie Astin, followed in her acting footsteps.
