Roman philosopher Marcus Tullius Cicero had once famously quoted: "The life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living." Here we take a look at some famous personalities who passed away this year, including Alan Rickman, David Bowie and Patty Duke.



ZAHA HADID (OCT. 31, 1950 – MARCH 31, 2016)

Renowned architect Dame Zaha Hadid, who earned the moniker "queen of the curve" for her distinct design style, has passed away following a heart attack. The 2012 London Olympics Aquatics Center, The Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center in Baku, Azerbaijan and the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA were some of her famous works. She was the first woman to win the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2005 among a host of other prestigious honors. In 2012 she was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her contributions in the field of architecture.



RONNIE CORBETT (DEC. 4, 1930 - MARCH 31, 2016)

British comedian Ronnie Corbett has passed away. One of UK’s best-loved entertainers, he had a successful double act with fellow comedian Ronnie Barker, with whom he starred in the television comedy series “The Two Ronnies” during the 1970s and ‘80s. He came to the limelight with David Frost's 1960s satirical comedy show “The Frost Report”, and later went on to star in the sitcoms “Sorry!” and “No – That's Me Over Here!”. He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2012 for his contribution to the entertainment industry.
