9 beauties who swapped modelling for movies

Lily Cole
With her flame red hair and unique, ethereal beauty, Lily Cole took the modelling world by storm in the early Nineties, with covers for Vogue, high-profile campaigns for brands as diverse as Chanel and Topshop, and a Model of the Year gong at the British Fashion Awards in 2004.
Keen to break away from modelling, Lily had a small role in 2007’s St Trinians before landing her first major part as Valentina in Terry Gilliam's 2009 fantasy film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (pictured). Her co-star was Heath Ledger (the film would be the Australian star’s last before his untimely death), and Lily confessed to feeling out of her depth.
She told The Daily Telegraph: ‘I’d only done a couple of films and here I was surrounded by amazing actors like Christopher Plummer and Heath Ledger, and it was intimidating at times.’
Still, she needn’t have worried; the film was a success, and Lily has since gone on to appear in numerous movies.
