Ten major varieties of cheese that are named after their places of origin are:
1. Cheddar from Cheddar, Somerset County in UK
2. Gorgonzola from the Italian town near Naples
3. Asiago from the Asiago plateau in Northern Italy
4. Brie in the Brie region east of Paris in France
5. Camembert which is named after a village in Normandy in France
6. Gruyère so named after a town in Switzerland
7. Havarti from a farm north of Copenhagen
8. Munster from a village in Alsace, France
9. Roquefort made in and around Roquefort-sur-Soulzon, France
10. Swiss cheese from Switzerland’s Emmen valley, which is why it’s called Emmental or Emmentaler.
