Kirkbride, who was born in Oldham, fought a battle with cancer in 1993, when she was forced to temporarily leave the soap after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma only to return a year later.
The actress had taken a break of three months from the show in September last year and was due for a return this month. Show's executive producer Kieran Roberts said, ‘She will be greatly missed by the Coronation Street team who share happy memories of working with her.’
