River of lava overruns holiday island’s villages

River of lava overruns villages after volcano erupts
Cape Verde's Pico do Fogo volcano explodes into life - after lying dormant for nearly 20 years. The eruptions, which started in November 2014, produced huge amounts of lava and smoke resulting in around 1,500 people being evacuated from the surrounding areas. The volcano, which last erupted in 1995, has destroyed a number of villages on Fogo island including Portela and Bangeira.
